What is a Sunday gathering like?
Westside has always been a place where we keep it pretty simple. It's relaxed and casual, but focused. We don't think we need to be flashy or put on big productions for people to meet God. We believe that Jesus is enough. We follow a basic pattern of meeting together. We teach from the Bible, and we pray, sing, reflect, and respond by taking communion together. The goal through it all is to love God and know Him better by making God's unchanging truth accessible without watering it down.
What you'll encounter when you come to a Sunday gathering is a diverse, biblical community where people seek to know and love God, live in community with others, and transform the world by serving our city as we think Jesus would. Practically speaking, that means that some of us are just checking out Christianity for the first time, while others have been in church their whole lives. We want Westside to be a place where you can learn, apply, and wrestle with who God is and what He wants for you. It's okay if you don't have it all figured out yet. Everyone is welcome.
How can I get connected?
Visit our Connect Centre in the lobby on a Sunday for answers to your questions and to find out ways to connect at Westside. Our Calendar is the best place to see upcoming events and classes. If you would like us to help you get plugged in right away, fill out a connect card HERE.
Westside is not just about Sundays. We also meet in smaller groups throughout the city during the week for community and to dive deeper into the questions about Sunday sermons. We encourage you to join one of our Community Groups. Community Groups (CG) gather in a home once a week, and each CG is uniquely shaped by its neighbourhood and the people who attend. You can expect a weekly gathering that involves food, conversation, prayer, biblical discussion, and practical service in the neighbourhood.
Another great way to get connected is to serve at Westside by joining one of our Ministry Teams—serving Jesus in and through practical ways at Westside.
If you love being outside and active, check out Westside Outdoors. Events are planned throughout the year and include a variety of activities, ranging from leisurely outdoor hikes and games to climbing mountains, cycling long distances, and team sports.
Welcome to Westside / Westside Eats
Join us on the 1st Sunday of the month for either Welcome to Westside or Westside Eats. At Welcome to Westside, you will have an opportunity to meet others within our church, hear a brief history of Westside, and learn how you can get connected and grow closer to Jesus at Westside. Westside Eats is a lunch that is free for newcomers and visitors. It is also a great opportunity to meet new friends over a wonderful meal together.
What about my kids?
Westside is a family-friendly place. We believe that children are a blessing from God and should be taught about God in a fun learning environment. Our vibrant and ever-growing children's ministry offers Sunday nursery care and Sunday School programs, community events, and summer day camps. For more information on Westside Kids, click here.
What about getting connected in the summer?
Over the summer, most things stay the same, but our Community Group rhythms change a bit. They continue on, but they take a break from structured weekly meetings and spend time having more organic hangouts.
Summer BBQs & Picnics
Because of the change in Community Group rhythms, newcomers often ask how they can get involved and meet people over the summer and Summer BBQs and Picnics are a great way to do that!
These BBQs/picnics are open for anyone to attend and take place over the months of July and August. The dates and times of these BBQs and picnics are generally posted at the end of June.
How does Westside communicate with me?
We communicate with you in many ways to try to help you stay informed about what's going on in the life of the ministry. Check out our Westside Communication section for all the information about how you can keep up to date with what's going on.
What is Planning Center/Church Center and how do I use it?
Planning Center—or Church Center— is made up of several different web applications and each application connects you to something at Westside. This means that you don’t need to go to Planning Center to create your profile, but rather your profile is created in Planning Center by connecting and interacting at Westside (Ex: registering for an event, checking in your kids on Sunday, signing up for a team, etc.).
Thanks for checking us out! If you have some time, surf our website a bit; you’ll find much more information about Westside throughout.
