Classes at westside during covid-19

It has been with a heavy heart that we have made the difficult decision to halt all classes at Westside during this time. Yet, it is with a lightness and burdens lifted that we rejoice in watching how God is using this time to expand His Church and draw us closer in community during times of uncertainty. Though we cannot gather now, we look forward to when, in His perfect timing, we will gather again.

In the meantime, we would love for you to get an idea of the classes offered here at Westside, stretching from evangelism training to walking through the covenant of marriage. Below you will find a list of all of our classes and what they entail.

The classes and initiatives that are still active or accepting applications are:
Baptism Class
Biblical Parenting Class
Child Dedication
Members Class
Women's Bible Studies
Preparing for Marriage

Baptism Class

The Baptism class is for those interested in finding out more about baptism and/or wanting to be baptized. This, along with attendance at the Members class, is a requirement for all wanting to be baptized at Westside. This is a one-day class (about 1.5 hours in length) and runs periodically throughout the year.

Baptisms for this Summer will be taking place! If you or anybody you know feel the Lord's leading to baptism, head over to our Baptism Class page to take the first step in your journey.

If you have any questions regarding Summer baptisms or steps to being baptized, please e-mail ashley@wchurch.ca.

Biblical Parenting

Children are a blessing from the Lord, but raising them is not easy! Christian parenting is not about the latest and greatest parenting techniques. It is about the gospel. So, what does gospel-centred parenting look like on a day-to-day basis? What vision does Scripture provide for our homes? What does it means to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord? Over the course of this coming year, we will look at these topics and many more including age-appropriate discipline, technology, sexuality, raising teens, and resources for teaching the Bible at home.

We are still hosting Biblical Parenting classes via zoom! Click here to learn more and to register.

child dedication

God has given Christian parents the privilege and responsibility of raising their children to know and love Jesus Christ, but the church is here so that every follower has a community of believers around them for help and support. This class is for new parents, parents-to-be, and those interested in dedicating their children at Westside.

At this time and for the indefinite future, we will be unable to formally dedicate children during our Sunday gatherings. However, if you desire to dedicate your child at some point, you may fill out our digital application form. Upon submission, your application will be reviewed by an elder and our administrative team will be in touch with more details.

Evangelism Class

This course is designed for those who are interested in increasing their confidence and effectiveness in the practice of evangelism, and who would like to be further engaged in our local mission and outreach. Beginning with and examination of the Biblical reasoning for it, several different approaches and overarching methodologies will then be unpacked to help participants create their own working approach. The course features a combination of lecture, round table discussion, video and reading assignments, as well as an optional local temple tour.

Foundations introduces people to the narrative of the Bible and the ways in which our lives, minds, and hearts are re-oriented around it. This class will challenge skeptics and believers alike to examine what it is they believe and why it is they believe it, and then proceed with an examination of the Christian worldview. While this class is designed specifically for new, young, and 'not yet’ believers, it will also be beneficial for those who are desiring to gain greater clarity on the role of God's Word in their lives.

Members Class

Before investing time, talent, or treasure into anything, you should know what, in fact, you are investing in. The Members Class exists to help you gain a clear picture of Westside.

Along with taking the Members Class as a requirement to becoming a member, you must also fill out an application form. Click here to visit the Members Class page for more information.

Men's Bible Study

This is for men who want to grow in their Biblical knowledge and study the word of God together. There are no studies of this kind running at this time.

Women's Bible Studies

These are for women who want to grow in their Biblical knowledge and study the word of God together. During this time, we have studies running via an online meeting platform.

Preparing for Marriage

This is for dating couples, those considering marriage, and those who are newly engaged. There are 3 main components to the course; class time, homework, and mentor meetings.

This class is set to take place in the fall, but we are proactively accepting applications at this time! Head over to this page for more information.

Refresh your Marriage

Everyone’s marriage morphs into something they didn’t intend it to be. At some point you need something sturdier than romance. You need something deeper than shared interests and mutual attraction. You need changed expectations, you need radical commitments, and most importantly, you need grace.

Reading and Applying the Bible

Reading & Applying the Bible is a four part class that teaches people to better study their Bible through an inductive method of study. Participants will be introduced to some of the historical background of the Bible, learn to interact with the various genres included in the canon, establish textual context and develop their own interpretive skill for reading, understanding, and applying the Bible.

Westside Training Program

We are extremely passionate about equipping the current and next generation of leaders to serve Jesus through the local church. Our Training ministry is intended to help you discern your calling and gifting, as well as aid in the formation of the character and competency required for a strong ministerial foundation. There are three different streams: Internship, Apprenticeship, and Church Planting Residency.
