Westside Training Program

We are extremely passionate about equipping the current and next generation of leaders to serve Jesus through the local church. Our Training ministry is intended to help you discern your calling and gifting, as well as aid in the formation of the character and competency required for a strong ministerial foundation.

Few things are clearer in the Bible than the church’s call to train, equip and disciple.

Jesus commissioned us to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

Paul instructed Timothy to, …be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” (II Tim. 2:2)

Paul, in writing to the church of Ephesus, said that “…[God] gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ” (Eph. 4:11-12).

At our core, we want to help train up future leaders, equip and mobilize them to be who God is calling them to be. The mission of Westside is to Make Jesus Known and this ministry is one of the ways we seek to accomplish that.

Westside Training offers three different equipping streams.

STREAM 1 – Westside Internship

9 Months
September through May
12 Hours a week

This is a one time, 9-month (September through May), 12-hour a week, volunteer-based track that seeks to assist those who are wishing to gain a broader understanding of church life and ministry.

The internship stream is available to anyone post high school who desires to gain more insight on church-based ministry, whether or not you are thinking about vocational ministry down the line.

What you can expect in this stream is a general overview on matters relating to local church ministry, equipping to contend for and share the gospel in our culture through the local church and mobilizing to serve the local church in various capacities. Training takes place through one on one coaching, formal training times, and on the ground ministry involvement.

It is imperative that you be available for most of the day Wednesday and Sunday mornings to take part in the internship stream.

STREAM 2 – Westside Apprenticeship

2 Years
15-25 Hours a week

This is a one time, 2-year, 15-25 hour a week stream that seeks to assist those sensing a call to full time church ministry and are wishing to gain further training to that end. This stream is available to anyone 23 years old and up.

Where the internship stream seeks to give a more general overview of the church the apprenticeship stream focuses more intently on the training of the leaders called to shepherd it. Tied to this, apprentices will be involved in a specific ministry area within the church and help bring leadership to it.

The training for the apprentices will come through one on one mentoring and coaching, bi-monthly cohorts led by Westside staff and Elders, personal study and on the ground ministry involvement.

The hourly requirement for Westside apprentices needs to include Sunday and Wednesday availability as well along with some additional hours, most likely. Additionally, all apprentices are allowed to raise support under the banner of Westside Church with donors qualifying for tax receipts at the end of the year. Assistance and training for fundraising will be given to those who request it.

STREAM 3 – Westside Church planting Residency

1 Year
Full time

This exists for those who feel a clear call to plant a church and have been formally assessed and affirmed to do so. This is an intensive 1 year, full-time stream, that has as its end goal the planting of a new church. The training in this stream incorporates many of the elements of the apprenticeship stream but with greater focus on the start of a new ministry in the lead up to it.

Salary for this position comes by way of Westside support, possible network and/or denominational support along with the call to fundraise ¼ of the amount as well.

More information specific to the residency stream will come in conversation with those who lead the Trains ministry.
