Women's Bible Studies

WHAT

Westside Women’s Bible Studies are offered three times a year (fall, winter, and spring). Our aim is to equip women at Westside with the tools and confidence they need to make studying the Bible an effective, lifelong pursuit, and in this way, prepare them to live out Jesus’ call to be disciple-makers (Matt. 28:19).

Who

Westside Women's Bible studies are open to those who currently and regularly attend Westside Church and those who would not necessarily call themselves a Christian, but are exploring faith and are without a home church. We would humbly encourage women whose home church is not Westside to consider investing their gifts, talent, and time in their local church body in order to build it up and strengthen its community.

CHILDCARE

Many of the groups have childcare available, though there are limitations to how many children each group can handle. Please indicate how many children you need care for when registering. If the childcare is full, you are still welcome to join the group, but you will have to make other arrangements for childcare. Childcare starts at $75 for one child and increases at $10 per additional child.

MATERIAL

Please note that the registration cost will remain the same—even if you already own the study guide. Study guides will be provided to you closer to the start date.

EXPECTATIONS

The focus of Bible study is to spend daily time with the Lord and learn from Him, using the Bible study material as a guide. Please note that the studies vary with regards to how much time one needs to set aside each week to adequately cover the required material. When participants get together, it is expected that each person share some of what they learned throughout the week as they studied, prayed, and reflected on from the study material. It is expected that you will attend each week (except in the case of a vacation, sickness, or emergency).

Registration Closes

Registration will close on Sunday December 8, 2019, or when studies are full.

The Promised One: Seeing Jesus in the Old Testament

By Nancy Guthrie

The Promised One provides a fresh look at the book of Genesis, leading readers in discovering how its stories, symbols, people, and promises point to Christ. Over ten weeks of study, participants will see Christ as the agent of creation, the offspring who will crush the head of the serpent, the ark of salvation, the source of the righteousness credited to Abraham, the substitutionary sacrifice provided by God, the Saviour to whom the whole world must come for life, and much more.

Jesus Continued: Why the Spirit inside you is better than the Jesus beside you

By J.D. Greear

Why do so many of us think of Christianity as a lifestyle to which we conform, rather than a God with whom we commune? Jesus gave His disciples the audacious promise that it was to their advantage that He go back to heaven because the Holy Spirit could then come to live inside of them. How many of us consider our connection to the Holy Spirit so strong and so real that we would call his presence in us better than Jesus beside us? Over the course of this study, you’ll see how you can have a satisfying, powerful relationship with God through the Holy Spirit.

Precept upon Precept: Jude - Contend for the faith

This letter of Jude is not written to a pastor but to "who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ" . The duty to contend for the faith is, therefore, not just the duty of the ordained ministers of the Word, though they do have a special responsibility. It is the duty of every genuine believer. We learn that we can prepare for this call by building ourselves up in our most holy faith through studying and meditating on the word, seeking the mind of the Holy Spirit in prayer, and keeping ourselves in the love of God.

The Son of David: Seeing Jesus in the Historical Books

By nancy guthrie

The Son of David is a book about Jesus. Nancy takes the reader through the plot line of redemption revealed in the historical narratives. All of the heroic figures in the Old Testament were mere pointers to the greater Savior, Redeemer, Shepherd, and King who was to come, namely, Jesus. This book argues very convincingly that all of the wonderful promises presented in shadow form have found their ultimate completion in the one who reigns perfectly over his kingdom. When you complete The Son of David, you will have a wonderful grasp of the historical books, but also your heart will melt as you see Jesus unveiled in every book. John Piper has said, ‘Beholding is becoming,’ and this is the kind of study that helps us behold our God and, in so doing, becoming the godly women we long to be. Come join me as we learn more about Jesus through the Old Testament - I promise that you will never look at the Old Testament the same way again!

1 Peter: A Living Hope in Christ

By Jen Wilkin

Our inheritance through Christ is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. In 1 Peter, a man of faith and flaws and eyewitness to the life of Christ challenges us to look beyond our current circumstances to a future inheritance. He shares his concerns on big picture issues for the early church, describes believers’ true identity in Christ, and ultimately helps readers discover what it means to experience the Living Hope they have in Christ.

Raised Together- A study of Colossians

by Gloria Furman

Paul’s letter to the church at Colossae encourages believers to live out the reality of the doctrine of Christ—He is God, He is supreme, and He is sufficient. We have been buried with Him and raised to life with Him as new creations, knit together in love.

Studies in Prayer: Developing a Strong Prayer Life

by tim keller

The one factor always present in revival is intense, corporate prayer - not so much for personal needs, but for the glory of God and the coming of his kingdom. Nevertheless, the corporate prayer life of a church must be grounded in the healthy, regular, personal prayer life of its individuals. When you have time all to yourself, where does your mind most effortlessly go? When you don't have to think of anything, what do you think about in your inner sanctum? Over the course of this 10 week study, we will start building a life of daily prayer, carve out time to meditate on the word of God so that it begins to change our hearts, and spend most of our evening together praying through what has been revealed to us by way of the Holy Spirit.
