What Are Community Groups?

We exist to know Jesus and make Jesus known—for the glory of God and the good of the city—through two equally important aspects of being the Church. The first is the proclamation of the Word (Live-stream Service), and the second is the everyday living out of the word in our lives. We believe that the gathering and public proclamation of God's Word is vital for the life of the Christian.

Our Community Groups are focused on the 4 components: Community, Mission, Replication, and Word + Prayer. To more easily remember these, think simply “Jesus, IOU everything!”

Inward knowing of Jesus. 

This takes place in all 4 components, but practically occurs as we hear, study, and build a relationship with Jesus through spiritual formation, spiritual disciplines, one-on-one with Jesus, prayer, etc (Joshua 1:7-9; Psalm 1)

Outward mission for Jesus. 

As we know Jesus, we also want to make Him known both locally and globally. This happens through serving the church through your spiritual gifts given and serving others on the mission Jesus left us with (Matthew 28:19-20 and Matthew 22:37-40).

Upward worship to Jesus. 

We are all worshippers and as we journey together we will find out there is only one God in three persons that deserves our worship (Psalm 150).

We want to encourage our leaders as well as all those a part of Westside church to live remembering that our salvation rests solely through Scripture alone, faith alone, grace alone, Christ alone, and to the glory of God alone.  

What about Online Community Group?

Every leader is doing their best to make a safe environment for those to attend. Some are meeting in smaller gender based groups, others are meeting via Zoom, and still others are doing more of a hybrid of both in-person and Zoom meetings. The big idea of Community Groups is that everyone at Westside is being discipled and is discipling others. A Community Group isn’t a program, but the intentional organizing of God’s people so discipleship can truly happen.

When you sign up for a Community Group, our hope is that you see that you are signing up to be a part of a family on mission and that you will be committed to one another.

What about kids?

Our biggest desire is that everyone, regardless of age, is being discipled in a Community Group, including your kids. In other words, we desire that they grow up with a community of believers pouring into their lives. What this looks like practically is up to you.

A Community Group is the people—not the weekly meetings of your group. Discipling your kids doesn’t necessarily mean your kids are a part of all of your group's official meeting times, but that they are a part of your Community Group in some form. How you involve them in those meetings is up to you. While in an online setting, you may need to get creative!
